Butterfly Milkweed is a variety of milkweed that is native to much of the United States. This perennial wildflower grows to about 1 to 3 feet tall, depending on environmental conditions. Butterfly Milkweed can be found growing in dry areas such as open fields, roadsides, farmland, wooded areas, and prairies. It displays long-lasting clusters of bright orange flowers on hairy stems that are a light green to a dull reddish-purple and can branch off at the top allowing for multiple flower heads. New plants can sprout from underground root rhizomes, or from seeds that shed from the long seed pods in the fall. Allow plants to self-seed in the landscape if desired or remove seed pods before they split open in the fall. These low-maintenance plants perform well on dry sites that have clay, sand, loam or average soils and are drought tolerant once established. Butterfly Milkweed is also deer resistant.
Our Butterfly Milkweed seeds will help you attract Monarch Butterflies and other pollinators such as bumblebees, native honeybees, hummingbirds, unique butterfly species and other insects that are beneficial to your garden or eco-landscape! To cultivate an optimum butterfly waystation, ensure you plant other varieties of milkweed and additional flowering plants as well; Common Milkweed and German Chamomile are two that we recommend for even greater pollinator activity.
Monarch Milkweed Seeds has supplied Milkweed seeds all throughout North America since 2015. Our passion is rooted in holistic land management, regenerative agriculture, permaculture and natural farming. We very much appreciate and honor the role that the Monarch butterfly plays in our ecosystem, as pollinators and as a species โ and you should too! We continue to receive support from all over the country; ranging from nature parks to conservationist projects, schools, educational programs and home gardeners.
