The Hello Darlin Blueberry is the newest blueberry bush from the Southern Living Plant Collection. This early-blooming variety has bell-shaped white flowers in the spring that turn into fruit later in the year. As an upright, controlled variety, this blueberry bush will maintain its habit and not overtake the area its planted in. It matures to 3-4 ft. tall by 2-3 ft. W. Enjoy a bountiful harvest of berries in the late spring through summer. Blueberries are rich in antioxidants and make a tasty, healthy snack. Rabbiteye Blueberries produce more fruit when they can cross-pollinate with other varieties. We suggest other Southern Living DownHome Harvest blueberries such as Takes the Cake Rabbiteye variety, also available from Home Depot. This highbush blueberry variety is hardy in USDA zones 7-9 and goes dormant in late fall. Plant in the full Sun to maximize berry production. Like most blueberries, Hello Darlin requires slightly acidic soil to thrive, 4.5 to 6 is optimal pH for blueberries to thrive in. If you have alkaline soil, supplement it with an organic soil acidifier to bring the pH down - avoid aluminum sulfate, which can be toxic if applied to edible plants.
